Feb 12 2019It's been a year and I haven't done it just been running without the AC engaged Super confused over my issue I have heard so many different opinions (bearing can't be replaced/bearing can be replaced/need to replace the compressor and have system flushed/need to replace both compressors) that I don't even know what to do

Nov 04 2017Changes my belts a few months back and now a slight squeak (like a chirp) has started in the pulley of the A/C compressor pulley I'm afraid I might had tighten the belt a little too much and put too much force on the pulley bearing over time Cant find much on this topic I can get a bearing for $35-$40 or an entire replacement AC for $250

Apr 19 2011you still have to pull the ac pulley/bearing and then remove the coil then after the coil is installed the pulley and bearing assembly have to be installed the tricky part is doing that without screwing up the compressor shaft or seal takes special tools I would also recommend the fsm as it shows the proper procedures

Dec 29 2008If you energize the AC clutch with a locked up compressor the symptom is exactly as you describe I know this from experience with my 2000 XJ The compressor pully free-wheels when the clutch is off If the bearing is binding it will not cause the clutch surfaces to rub and thow metal it will just be noisy The bearing is sealed

Mar 04 2005GM Tech on Tue March 01 2005 1:04 PM The pulley bearing is peened into the pulley housing only as a safety measurement- by design it is interfernce fit- the bearing is pressed in- I have the blueprints-- also if you put the bent key half way in the clutch hub prior to installation- you will NEVER have trouble inserting/aligning the clutch/key/to shaft interface

Sep 07 2018I apologize for the poor photo but you get the idea of how I got at the AC compressor pulley to replace the bearing With the carrier laid down out of the way I used a triple-pin special tool on an impact gun to spin off the drive plate (shown here removed) After that the rubber inserts and a circlip retainer are removed then the pulley tapped off the front of the compressor

Mar 07 2005If the compressor siezed then the whole system is fouled You would then need to replace the compressor condenser and the filter/dryer Then the remaining components core tev etc would need to be flushed Actually the tev is a $20 part so just replace it anyway You without a doubt want to make sure the compressor is still working
